Cutting Through the Internet Noise

When we created Planzai‘s mission – to bring expert content and seamless project management to people who want to do things they’ve never done before – we made a big promise to ourselves. That we would never become part of the Internet Noise.

And by noise, I mean the endless glut of mediocre opinion, content and advice that users must wade through to find information that even resembles helpful. Since internet usage has become a standard part of all our lives, the world has enjoyed the benefit of a vast wealth of information at our fingertips. But we also have to contend with the drain on time and energy when sifting through the virtual landfill of Total Nonsense, Grammatically Incorrect Drivel, Stuff A Five Year Old Could Tell You, Shameless Self-Promotion Thinly Disguised As Information, and Blogs/Videos That Are An Excuse For One To Hear The Sound Of One’s Own Online Voice.

Harsh? Maybe, but my time is a valuable commodity. And the last thing I want to do is spend  hours trawling the recesses of the web, only to find that all I have to show for it is a feeling of smouldering rage. And so, when we were developing the Planzai idea, we wanted to find ways to assure quality of content.

Being a thrifty start-up, it was never our plan to simply buy wads of content and fling it up online a la eHow & co. For a start, that kind of indiscriminate bulk-buying doesn’t guarantee that all content will be cutting edge quality. We’ve been brainstorming new and interesting ways to ensure that Planzai content fulfills our All-Killer-No-Filler brief, and one idea that we’ve come up with is the Knowledge Sprint Day.

We’ll be holding events where we gather together smart, interesting people with expertise in various fields, with a view to pooling their knowledge and opinions and producing some great blueprints. The aim is not only to contribute to the fantastic collaborative culture that already exists in Northern Ireland, but to push the boundaries of Planzai and see what problems Planzai would be suited to solving.

Our first event will be this weekend, Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st July (12 – 6pm both days), at our brand new Planzai offices. We’ll be hosting folks from media, tech, charities and the arts, feeding them pizza and beer, and seeing what we come up with. And we’re lucky to have the fantastic Andrew Dubber (New Music Strategies, Music Think Tank, Birmingham City University) to curate the whole shebang.

If you think you’re the kind of person we’d like to be locked in a room with this weekend, drop me an email at louise@planzai.com, or check out the event on Eventbrite. There are a few places left (but not many), and we’re always happy to add a few new awesome minds/faces to the mix.
